Underwood Elementary ASPIRE students finished the Bidding Series course with a mini-tournament on Tuesday, March 9, 2010. Eight students were playing eight boards with an individual movement. Each board was played twice. Top on a board was therefore 1. The winner was Zach Cihacek with a matchpoint score of 6. There was a 3 way tie for second with 5 matchpoints among Brady Hemmel, Mitchell Hudson, and Evan Schoenherr.

Working in conjunction with the Unit 131 board, we will once again be offering a student section of bridge players at the Spring Sectional Tournament on April 23. This special section will begin play at noon and play 12 boards. This is for students in high school or younger with less than 5 masterpoints and residing within the boundaries of Unit 131. Winners will be awarded masterpoints and the Unit is providing a trophy to the top winners as well. In addition, Kathy Rolfe is providing a $50 scholarship to the top winners through the Eugene J. Rolfe Educational Fund administered through the Truman Heartland Community Foundation. Unit 131 is also underwriting the cost of busing the students from the Lee's Summit, MO school district to the playing site at the Firefighters Hall at 6320 Manchester Ave., Kansas City, MO 64133. Any student who is a member of ACBL will be allowed to play in that session for free! The cost of play is being underwritten by Unit 131 as well. If a student has not become a member, the cost will be $3. If the student wants to join ACBL and play, the cost is just $3 and Unit 131 will pay the additional $2 towards the $5 one year student membership..

The fall 2009 bridge Marathon has just finished. We had 10 pairs playing party bridge, keeping running totals from night to night.

Summit Pointe Elementary 6th grade ASPIRE students finished the Bidding Series course with a mini-tournament on Thurssday, November 19, 2009. Eight students were playing eight boards with an individual movement. Each board was played twice. Top on a board was therefore 1. The clear winner was Jennifer Hutton with a matchpoint score of 7. Second was Cody with 5 matchpoints. There was a 3 way tie for third with 4 matchpoints for Clayre, Kali Boydston, and Adam Moore.

Cedar Creek Elementary 6th grade ASPIRE students finished the Bidding Series course with a mini-tournament on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. Eight students were playing eight boards with an individual movement. Each board was played twice. Top on a board was therefore 1. The clear winner was G. with a matchpoint score of 6. Second was Harper Leach with 5 matchpoints. There was a tie for third with 4 matchpoints for Cori Persinger and Anthony Moseman.
