Recently got back from teaching at the week long residential Youth Bridge Camp in Carlinville, IL. What a great camp and a great group of people. This past week was the 5th year this camp has been held but just my second year participating. Numbers were down this year but those of us who made it had lots of fun with a lot of good bridge learning and bridge playing done along the way. Besides bridge - there was swimming, tennis, archery, ping-pong, glow in the dark dodgeball as seen here from the 2012 camp year and much more!

Here is the 2014 Flyer!

There is a Unit 131 Camp Scholarship(s) now available! Here is the 2013 Campership Application. Hopefully a 2014 will be available soon.

S'mores with a campfire

Here I am in 2012 with my co-counselor and girls in our cabin. I worked as both a bridge teacher and a counselor that year. Taken on the last day - do I look a little tired?

A group of homeschooled kids ranging from 4th grade to 9th grade just finished the Bidding in the 21st Century Club Series of 8 lessons. Those lessons were followed by a mini-tournament on November 6. A Home style, Swiss Team was played. Three rounds of 2 boards per round were played. Each pair played one round against an opponent at their own table, while at the same time their teammates were playing the opposite direction at the other table. At the end of the round, opponents and teammates changed. By the end of 3 rounds, every pair had played against the other 3 pairs at their table, teamed with the other 3 pairs, and opposed them in the same direction. A little complicated to explain if you've never played a two table team game, but fun anyway! At any rate, Isabella and Theresa, who happen to be cousins, came in first, winning all 3 rounds. Andrew and Phillip, brothers, came in second. And perhaps most importantly, everyone had fun!

Seven youth students of mine made the trip to Council Bluffs, Iowa for the 2012 Nebraska Regional on Thursday, August 2. Yes, I know we were in Iowa for a Nebraska Regional, but Nebraska was quite literally right next door! Bill Gates and Warren Buffet weren't there this year, but professional bridge player Billy Miller talked to them, giving them some friendly advice and having fun with some interesting stories from his career as well. Oh, by the way, 6 of those 7 students had a great day picking up masterpoints!
