Lee’s Summit Students Place in Top Ten in North American Competition for the Third Year in a Row!

Eighty-eight students participated in the 2004 ACBL Instant Matchpoint Competiton on April 30, 2004 at Our Lady of the Presentation School in Lee's Summit, MO. The students represented 10 different schools. All participating students have either taken the Club Series Bridge Lessons during this school year or in previous years. The top North-South (NS) and East-West (EW) pairs in North America will each receive a $500 scholarship provided by the ACBL Education Foundation. These 88 students from 4th through 9th grade played 12 hands of duplicate bridge, with 100 matchpoints awarded in total to the NS and EW pair on each hand. This effort could not have been accomplished without the donations and help provided by the W-S Duplicate Bridge Club in Lee's Summit and Unit 131 of ACBL. Especially appreciated was the on-site help provided by Tim Hays, the director of the Tuesday night sessions at the Studio (Unit 131's home).

The top three places in Lee’s Summit for NS and EW were:

North-South:

1st: from Cedar Creek Elementary - Paul Shackelford and Matt Kamp with 871 matchpoints -3rd in North America! (just 17 points behind a two way tie for first)
2nd: from Trailridge Elementary - Mollie Harmon and Clare Petrucci with 788 matchpoints (11th in North America!)
3rd: from Trailridge Elementary - Nick Wyatt and Josh Pihl with 756 matchpoints

East-West:

1st: from Lee's Summit Elementary - Michelle Wendlandt & from Cedar Creek Elementary Ally McEntire with 763 matchpoints
2nd: from Cedar Creek Elementary - Mavis Brefo & Mickey Creech with 762 matchpoints
